This custom flange was engineered to integrate a support mount for a big turbo setup. The flange is machined from a single billet of 304 stainless steel. Stainless steel is a very hard and abrasive material to machine. This requires extra care when creating a machining profile. Each tool path is carefully programmed to create the best surface finish. Tool life is shortened, machine time takes much longer, and more rigid workholding is required. Although very tricky, through patience and great care a beautiful piece emerges from the coolant and chips.
