Sebring 16" 3 Piece Conversion
1/5

OEM PLUS on another level! I always wanted a set of 3 piece Corrado Sebrings. However, I didn't want them in 17" as that too big for most pre-90 VW's. I mangled a few of these wheels on my quest to figure out the absolute best way to get them to fit into a 16" lip and barrel. I settled on hidden hardware and a little bit of face poke in the smallest lip configuration.

The First step of this process was to rough split the wheel to access areas for welding. Strip and media blast the faces to remove any potential contamination during the welding process. 138 total feet of welds were laid to the thin area of the face to maintain the structural integrity of the wheel.

The next process was 4 axis CNC machining of the faces to remove the outer lip, reduce the outside diameter, process the register dimensions, and drill and tap the face to accept the m8 studs. This process also required pretty elaborate fixtures to maintain precision.

I also couldn't accept the OEM plastic center caps. In typical Errol fashion, I made billet aluminum center caps. This ensured a uniform color for the powder coating process. They consist of billet face plate and Delrin retaining hub for reliable use in the life of the wheels.

Next step was off to the powder coater to get finished in a 2 stage color and satin clear. This finish should be durable for a long time. The process was very challenging due to the thickness of the faces and tight holes in the windows.

Custom valve stems and "Errol's Autowerks" valve stem caps were also manufactured and installed.

Final assembly consisted of marrying the lip and barrel with a secondary hardware for reinforcement. Then installing the face to the custom made to order lip and barrel combo. Lastly everything is torqued and sealed.

Final Specs are 16x8 et 52 in 4x100.
